Worn by 1,074 women during WWII who completed the WASP training program, wore a broach called the, Silver Wasp Wings. While in war the WASP were told that the diamond symbolized the shield carried by Athena, Goddess of War.
Zoot suits were for the trainees and only came in men sizes, most of the time the coveralls were to big, the trainees would have to roll up the pant legs and arm sleeves.
The WASP trainee uniform consist of "General's" pants, white shirt and sometimes A-2 leather jacket w/ patch on left front.
Skirt and belted blazer, beret, white shirt and tie in a satiago blue color was the dress uniform. Black leather purse was one of the first 'over the shoulder' bags.
WASP Flying "Duty" Uniform was Eisenhower jacket and slacks with a blue shirt and tie.
Leather flying gear were for trainees and ferry pilots. Just like the zoot suits, the heavy leather suits only came in men sizes. These uniforms were used when flying in cold weather and or open cockpit aircraft.
This is the Fifinella. Fifinella was the national mascot for the WASP. Fifinella, Fifi for short, was a Disney cartoon that was worn as the WASP patch when going to war on leather and or cloth. On Fifi there are six letters, A.A.E.E.T.D., those letters stand for Army Air Force Flying Traning Detachment.
